OSR Projects – ‘Weather Station (Part II) 2016

Weather Station at b-side festival 2016

Opening Saturday 10 September  until  18 September / 11am – 6pm daily

Venue: Drill Hall / Easton Lane / Portland / DT5 1BW

A giant inflatable ball becomes the Weather Station, a mobile pavilion for the collection of images, objects and ideas. An artist-led response to flooding,  extreme weather and the changing relationship we have with landscape and the natural world. Cumulative rather than collaborative, the structure passes from one artist to the next, gathering traces of its journey through the beautiful and broken landscapes of South West England.

The exhibition brings together new work by artists Laurie Lax, Laura Hopes, James Hankey, Nicola Kerslake, Phil Smith, Stair/Slide/Space, Jethro Brice, Simon Lee Dicker, Alexander Stevenson and Elaine Fisher (+ special guests Andy Webster & Darren Ray) alongside existing work by the participating artists.

The Crucible – Artists’ Gathering

The Crucible, organised by SIX and OSR Projects,  taking place as part of the b-side festival, will bring together creative practitioners for a day of art, food and conversation.

Starting with a bus tour of some of the highlights of this years b-side Festival on Portland we will explore the island, meeting some of the participating artists and curators. A packed lunch will be provided during the tour and we will then spend the afternoon at The Drill Hall, the venue for OSR Projects Weather Station exhibition.

The aim of the afternoon session is to provide a forum for creative practitioners at all stages of their careers to share knowledge and experience and learn about each other’s practice and projects. Small group conversations will be guided by a number of experienced practitoners from arts organizations around the South West (and beyond) including:

Sarah & Mark Harris – SIX project space

Tim Martin – Hestercombe Gallery

Vickie Fear – Plymouth Arts Centre

Sally Watkins – B-Side

Hannah Sofaer – Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust
